The Membrillo is a kind of fruit which originates from the caspian sea. The name derives from the city Cydon, Greece. Nevertheless the fruit already existed in the Babylonian time. The Greecs considered the membrillo the symbol for fertility and love.

Currently this fruit is not only cultivated in Andalucia,but also in Armenia, the Kaukasus, Irak, Siria, Argentine, Greece, the Balcan as also in the Spanish regions as :Levantina, Extremadura and Murcia.


One cannot eat the fruit without it is processed. The reason is that the membrillo taste bitter and acid. They use the fruit to make jelly, jam, medicinal sirop and carne de membrillo.

Membrillo tasts the best if one combines it with subtropical fruits, biscuits or fresh cheese.

Contains good properties for :

  • Haemostatic.
    - Increased blood pressure
    - Cholesterol.
    - Helps in preventing heart and vascular diseases.
    - Stops diarrhoea.
    - Anti-inflammatory.
