The name in Latin is : Cydonia obloga Mill. = Cydonia vulgaris Pers
The Membrillo is a kind of fruit which originates from the caspian sea. The name derives from the city Cydon, Greece. Nevertheless the fruit already existed in the Babylonian time. The Greecs considered the membrillo the symbol for fertility and love. Currently this fruit is not only cultivated in Andalucia,but also in Armenia, the Kaukasus, Irak, Siria, Argentine, Greece, the Balcan as also in the Spanish regions as :Levantina, Extremadura and Murcia.
Membrillo tasts the best if one combines it with subtropical fruits, biscuits or fresh cheese. Contains good properties for :
