All over Spain and therefore also in Andalucia are known many ways of drinking coffee. When you enter a bar, many times you can choose from : Solo , Largo ( also named cortado ), Semilargo, Mitad, Corto , Sombra, Nube, Descafeinado con Leche, Con Hielo and many variations more. Also the famous Carajillo is not absent In Cafe Central in Malaga you can consult a tiled wall for more explanation as the picture shows
Cafe Solo : Black Coffee Cafe Largo : Black Coffee Cafe Cortado : A cup with more than half ful with coffee and with a bit milk. This one is in between the Largo and the Mitad. Just a little bit more dan half coffee Half Coffee, Half milk This is half a Solo, So , a little cup of black coffee A bit less than half a cup of coffee and the rest milk. Cafe Sombra : A tiny bit of Coffee with the rest milk Cafe Nube : A glas/ cup of milk with a bit of coffee
The last one on the wall is "No me lo ponga", this means just a glas of milk
Cities like Seville and Malaga have their "own" coffee brand . In Seville their is Catunambu and in Malaga they have Castel and Santa Cristina. To find in Malaga Catunambu or Santa Cristina in Seville will be almost impossible. Later more about thes branches. A many used way to make coffee at home is the Moka Pot ( as in Italy ) You put it on the furnace. It is a cheap and aesy way to make a nice cup of coffee which has it's origin from Italy in the 30's As you can see on the picture it is a well knwon design. ![]() How to use it ? Their are different models of this design but all are based on the same principle of steampressure which pushed the water trough the coffee with a pressure of 1,5 - 3 bar. 1- Fill the lower part with clean water untill the safety valve and place the metal filter. 2- Fill the filter with freshly grinded coffee. The amount is for your own taste and experience. 3- Make sure that the filter disk and gasket are fitted correctly. Srew together both upper as lower part of the Moka pot until they are one 4- Put the Moka pot on the furnace with a low fire. The coffee wil end up in the higher part of theMoka Pot. When after 4-5 minutes you hear a gurgeling sound take the pot from the fire and the coffee is ready. 5- Rinse every time after using with clean water and dry it very good
